The Atelier
The atelier operates as a structural laboratory. Grounded in 139,500 nautical miles of operational seamanship, the studio extracts physical forces—drag, vector load, and kinetic tension—and translates them into spatial interventions that reconfigure the architectural container.

Ché Hough
My practice treats sculpture not as autonomous objects for passive viewing, but as assertive spatial interventions. Operating from the elemental convergence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, the studio investigates sillage—the lingering footprint of movement through water. The resulting masses function as self-contained physical diagrams of vector force, demanding an immediate, bodily reorientation to scale and gravity.
Navigational Typologies
The practice executes across six typological registers. Each operates as a direct translation of live fluid dynamics into heavy, spatial encounters that interrupt the viewer's path. From the structural tension of a breaching fluke to the collective body as a structural force, these are not metaphors; they are operational observations made daily from the helm, materialized into unyielding form. Applied Logic · Tectonic Surfaces
Modular surface architectures for the building envelope. Hand-cast composite matrices that bring the tactile tectonics of the coast directly into the residential volume, altering the spatial flow through the strict logic of physical law. Explore the Surface →
Fabrication & Evidence
My material vocabulary was forged in the engine room and on the open deck. Weathered, friction-worn surfaces are left uncorrected—surface degradation serves as physical documentation of environmental strain. Hand-lamination, composite repair, and structural welding dictate a rigorous regime of testing and curing.
Place
The Southern Convergence
The atelier at Pearly Beach and the observatory at Suiderstrand flank the confluence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. This coastal exposure site provides the empirical baseline for the studio's investigation into fluid dynamics and spatial thresholds.
